Missions & International Community Health

The Missions and International Community Health program will equip you to minister spiritually and physically across cultural lines as Health Missionaries in developing countries.

The first year is the same as the first year of our 3-Year Diploma Program. This year will provide you with a strong biblical foundation through classes such as Old and New Testament Survey, Worldwide Perspectives, Bible Study Methods, and Basic Discipleship.

The second year, is comprised of our Missions and Cultural Studies program. During this year you will study the Bible, missionary life and ministry, cultures and customs, and world religions. You will be prepared for the many challenging aspects of missionary life, and develop a practical and culturally-sensitive response to reach out with the love of Christ! You will also complete the Junior Student Internship at the New York School of Urban Ministry (NYSUM) in New York City.

The third year, following the paramedic model, consists of an education in the basic sciences such as anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology. Health courses include Health and Disease of Tropical and Developing Countries, Community Health Assessment and Development, and Physical Exam and Assessment.

It has been said that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Nowhere is this more true than in developing countries. Skills such as suturing wounds, giving injections and basic dental care will be taught. In addition, you will learn how to provide adequate, practical service to your community - given the available resources, and working within the local regulations and standards of healthcare.

At the completion of your classroom education you will practice your skills during an eight week internship under the supervision of an experienced health missionary serving in a developing country. Most importantly you will learn to integrate your faith with your health ministry by caring for the whole person: spirit, soul and body.
