Accessibility and Disability Services

Elim Bible College (EBC) is committed to providing equal access to its academic programs, services, and activities for all qualified students with disabilities. In compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), as amended, and applicable New York State laws, EBC seeks to eliminate discrimination and ensure that qualified students are not excluded from participation in, denied the benefits of, or otherwise subjected to discrimination on the basis of disability.

Reasonable Accommodations

EBC provides reasonable accommodations to qualified students with disabilities to ensure equal access to educational opportunities. Accommodations are determined through an individualized process that considers the functional impact of the disability within the academic or campus environment.

Accommodations will not be provided if they are determined to be unreasonable, unduly burdensome, or if they would fundamentally alter the essential requirements or integrity of a course, program, or institutional activity, in accordance with federal and state regulations.

Requesting Accommodations

Students seeking accommodations must self-identify and initiate the accommodation process by contacting the College and submitting appropriate documentation from a qualified professional. Requests should be made in a timely manner, preferably prior to the start of the semester, to allow adequate time for review and implementation.

The Special Needs Coordinator (SNC) works with the Provost to review documentation, determine eligibility, and coordinate approved accommodations. The Provost will address the faculty so they are aware of the existing needs.

Academic, Campus, and Residential Support

Approved accommodations may include, but are not limited to:

  • Extended time or alternative arrangements for exams (may not apply to quizzes)
  • Notetaking assistance or access to instructional materials
  • Tutoring support
  • Permission to record lectures, when approved
  • Classroom and program accessibility accommodations
  • Residential life accommodations
  • Food allergy accommodations
  • Service animal access in accordance with institutional policy and applicable law

Some accommodations may require alternative instructional formats, including virtual participation, when appropriate and reasonable.

Documentation & Confidentiality

Students requesting accommodations are responsible for providing current, relevant, and professionally prepared documentation that supports the need for accommodations. Documentation is reviewed to determine eligibility and appropriate accommodations.

All disability-related documentation and accommodation records are maintained in a confidential manner and are shared only with college personnel involved with the coordination and facilitation of services and accommodations, except as required by law or in situations involving health or safety concerns.

Faculty & Institutional Responsibility

Faculty members are responsible for implementing approved accommodations in a timely manner and for maintaining the academic integrity of their courses. While faculty may consult regarding appropriate accommodations, individual faculty members are not authorized to independently approve accommodations outside the established process.

Appeals

Students who wish to appeal an accommodation decision or documentation determination may submit a written request for reconsideration to the Provost. Appeals may be based on a decision not to provide a particular accommodation or issues regarding documentation of disabilities. The EVPP may approve or deny the request, as his/her decision is final.

Shared Responsibility & Ongoing Communication

Providing access for students with disabilities is a shared responsibility among students, faculty, and staff. Students are expected to communicate proactively, adhere to established procedures, and participate in the accommodation process to ensure timely and effective support.
